Your information
Privacy notice
What we hold about you, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. Written to meet the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013.
Last updated 2 October 2026
The short version
This website collects nothing at all. There is no form on it, no account to create, no cookie, no analytics and no tracking of any kind. You can read every page of it and we will never know you were here.
The only information we hold about you is what you choose to send us, which in practice means an email.
Who we are
Follow the Tide, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. For anything in this notice, write to [email protected].
What we hold
When you enquire or book, we hold what you tell us: your name, your email address, a phone number if you give one, who is coming with you, the dates you want, and anything you tell us about fitness, injuries, allergies or dietary needs so that your trip is safe and your food is right.
We do not ask for and do not want your identity number, your bank details beyond the reference on a payment, or anything else we have no use for.
Why we hold it, and on what basis
To answer your enquiry, to quote you, to run the trip you booked, and to meet obligations the law places on us. Under the Protection of Personal Information Act this is processing necessary to carry out a contract with you, and to pursue our legitimate interest in running the business you have asked us to run for you.
Who else sees it
Only the people who need it to make your trip happen:
- the lodges and campsites you are staying at, who need names and numbers to hold a booking
- your guides, who need to know about medical conditions and dietary needs
- the Park Authority, where a permit requires us to say who is on a trip
- our email provider, Zoho, which stores our mail on our behalf
We do not sell your information, we do not rent it, and we do not pass it to anybody for marketing.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not turn into a booking are deleted within twelve months. Booking records are kept for five years after the trip, because tax and accounting rules require it. Medical and dietary information is deleted once the trip is over.
One thing we should mention about the website
Although this site collects nothing itself, the typefaces it uses are loaded from Google Fonts when a page opens. That means Google sees the internet address of the device reading the page, as it would with any site using the same service. We do not receive any of that information and cannot link it to you.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to our holding it. Email us and we will reply within a reasonable period, and in any event within thirty days. There is no charge.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
