Kosi Bay to Cape Vidal · iSimangaliso Wetland Park

Where the beach becomes the trail

The tide gives us the time. The open beaches of iSimangaliso give us the place. And because it takes the sun and moon aligning to open that sand at all, the ride itself becomes once in a lifetime.

What we do

Exclusive cycle and surf trips, ridden entirely on the beach

Follow the Tide runs exclusive cycling and surf trips along some of the most pristine and beautiful stretches of beach in the world. On the cycling trips you ride the whole journey on the sand itself, not on a track beside it.

You will see stretches of this coastline that very few people have ever experienced, and fewer still even know exist. Quiet bays opening into long empty beaches. The iconic forested dunes standing behind them. Water clear enough to see straight down onto reefs thick with marine life. It is the kind of journey that brings the adventurer out of you.

Trips are limited. We run only two a month, timed to the spring tides, because that is the only time the sand is firm enough to ride. Our team guides you and handles everything for the whole journey, so the only things you will have to think about are how beautiful the coastline is and having a good time with your friends.

The experience

What it actually looks like

Why there are so few of these

Twenty-two departures a year. One group on each.

The tide only opens this coastline around each spring low, which comes roughly every fortnight. That leaves us twenty-two departures in a year, and a single private group goes out on each one. There is no way to add more. When a date is taken it is gone, and it is just you and your friends out there.
